Home Product Certification Protocols

The NSF Home Product Certification Program includes a full evaluation of product types and construction materials, performance and quality criteria, and all regulatory requirements including labeling/claims/packaging. In addition to evaluating products for material makeup, including BPA, phthalates and heavy metals where relevant, NSF also verifies the cleanability of the product according to the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.

Protocol Description
NSF Protocol P386: Food Storage Containers for Home Use This protocol was developed to encompass quality, performance and regulatory testing and verification applicable to food storage containers intended for sale in the retail consumer market. Compliance with the protocol alone does not imply NSF certification. Review and authorization of materials, components, drawings, packaging and use of the NSF mark, in addition to a production facility audit and compliance with NSF certification policies, are required.
NSF Protocol P387: Coffee Makers for Home Use This protocol was developed to encompass quality, performance and regulatory testing and verification applicable to coffee makers intended for sale in the retail consumer market. Compliance with the protocol alone does not imply NSF certification. Review and authorization of materials, components, drawings, packaging and use of the NSF mark, in addition to a production facility audit and compliance with NSF certification policies, are required.
NSF Protocol P388: Blenders for Home Use This protocol was developed to encompass quality, performance and regulatory testing and verification applicable to blenders intended for sale in the retail consumer market. Compliance with the protocol alone does not imply NSF certification. Review and authorization of materials, components, drawings, packaging and use of the NSF mark, in addition to a production facility audit and compliance with NSF certification policies, are required.
NSF Protocol P389: Slow Cooker & Rice Cooker Appliances for Home Use This protocol was developed to encompass quality, performance and regulatory testing and verification applicable to slow cookers and rice cookers intended for sale in the retail consumer market.
