  • Overview

NSF International is a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Center on Food Safety, Water Quality and Indoor Environment.Our collaboration includes:

  • Secondments. NSF International has stationed experts in Geneva, Switzerland; Brussels, Belgium; and Ann Arbor, Michigan to help carry out the important work of the WHO. Secondees serve as WHO employees providing needed technical and financial support to advance public health worldwide.
  • WHO Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality. NSF supported work and contributions to the third and fourth editions of the WHO's Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality.
  • Airline Water Safety. An NSF secondee led the effort to develop an international guidance document on the safety considerations of all aspects of international airline water quality.
  • Water Safety Plans. An NSF secondee spent several years advancing water safety plans and helping to develop the audit tools and training necessary to carry out this important work.
  • Home Water Treatment. An NSF secondee has started work on developing technical requirements for the effective evaluation of low-cost home water treatment systems for global use.
  • Codex Alimentarius. NSF has participated in Codex meetings, supported by WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and has utilized Codex documents in developing key food safety programs including training in HACCP and prerequisite programs.
  • Conferences. NSF has developed and hosted multiple conferences that incorporated WHO staff and programs. Topics included water quality, nutrition, food safety and indoor air health.
