- Certification Process
Consumer concerns regarding climate change and the impact of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions continue to drive the demand for products that help reduce GHG and protect the environment. Responsible management of corporate carbon footprints has made it to the top of business agendas and manufacturers are looking for ways to lower the carbon footprint of their products. To help address these concerns, NSF Sustainability is an exclusive partner with Carbonfund.org to perform third-party CarbonFree® product certifications—a transparent way for organizations to offset product carbon footprints and provide carbon neutral products.
We can help you get the CarbonFree mark of distinction for your product. For more information or to receive a quote on CarbonFree product certification services, call +1 734.476.2543 or email email@example.com.

Benefits of Certification
CarbonFree® is the first carbon neutral label in the U.S. and the CarbonFree logo is widely recognized by consumers and companies throughout the world as a preferred mark. NSF offers CarbonFree third-party validated carbon reduction project offsets to help companies enhance their product brand profile, strengthen their corporate social responsibility and help achieve their environmental goals. After completion of a life cycle assessment to determine their product’s carbon footprint, companies can develop strategies to reduce this footprint, and then offset the remaining emissions through carbon offsets offered by NSF and Carbonfund.org.

Why Work With NSF Sustainability?
NSF Sustainability is an exclusive partner of Carbonfund.org, and we offer CarbonFree® product certification to manufacturers around the world. By determining a product’s carbon footprint through a life cycle assessment, reducing it where possible and offsetting remaining emissions, CarbonFree product certification from NSF can help complete the carbon neutral process and allow companies to ensure the credibility of their claims.
NSF International has the qualifications and reputation to help your business meet the needs of the market and get the recognition and acceptance that is critical to your company’s success.
Customers are assigned a certification project manager to help guide them through the proper protocol toward obtaining CarbonFree® product certification. All projects are in compliance with standards such as the American Carbon Registry, Verified Carbon Standard, Climate Action Reserve, Gold Standard, and Community and Biodiversity Standard.
The certification process involves five steps:
- You complete a life cycle assessment (LCA)*.
- We calculate the carbon emissions based on LCA data.
- We register and certify your product as CarbonFree.
- You offset the product’s carbon footprint quarterly.
- You renew your product annually.
*NSF can help you identify resources to complete your life cycle assessment.
