NSF and JD Fresh Held Raised Without Antibiotics and Food Safety Assurance Forum in China
On October 30, NSF and JD Fresh signed a memorandum of understanding during the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo in Qingdao. Both parties committed to promote Raised Without Antibiotics certification in China, to implement the “One Certification, Recognized Everywhere” initiative proposed by the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People's Republic of China and to promote the application of China-HACCP in the domestic supplier management system. JD Fresh, China’s leading fresh food e-commerce platform, is committed to giving priority to companies that have obtained NSF certifications.
In recent years, with the rapid development of China's economy, consumers' demand for animal products has changed dramatically. More and more people want food to be safer, healthier, nutritious and delicious. Food safety is the red line of every food business operation, and is gaining more and more weight in consumer purchasing decisions.
A hot topic in food safety is products with no antibiotic residue. The reduction of antibiotic abuse has been highly valued by the Chinese government. Consumers prefer animal products raised without antibiotics, but at the same time, most consumers are not familiar with third-party certification for animal products. There is a huge demand in the market for a certification mark that can clearly indicate to consumers which products are raised without antibiotics.
NSF is one of the few third-party organizations that can conduct raised without antibiotics certification, and is committed to introducing this certification into China.
NSF’s Raised Without Antibiotics certification provides consumers with the assurance that the animal products they buy have been produced without exposure to antibiotics used in human disease therapy. This certification provides buyers and consumers with transparency and consistency of the on-package claim and covers all animal products such as meat, poultry, seafood, fish, dairy and eggs.
Chunlang Zhai, Senior Business Manager of JD Fresh, said in a speech at the seminar, "In the process of e-commerce development, third-party certification is of great significance to the business. Merchants who sells products on the JD platform must upgrade their brand premiums and combine the advantages of fresh products and e-commerce to enter the fast lane of development. Getting third-party certification is a very smart way to increase brand value. I hope that everyone on the JD platform can work together to build and promote a mature, advanced system."
Other main participants at the seminar included Alan Zhao, JD Fresh PoP Managing Director; Wei Zhao, NSF Director of Food Division and Audit Delivery of Greater China; Danny Zhang, NSF Supply Chain Unit Manager; Ru Jia, NSF Project Manager for Consumer Values Verified (CVV) and Sarah Wu, China Representative, SQF.
