Course Overview

Step into environmental management with this two-day virtual ISO 14001 Internal Auditor training course. Designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct effective internal audits of Environmental Management Systems based on the ISO 14001:2018 standard.

Our engaging and interactive training sessions delve into core principles of the ISO 14001:2018 standard. Through a blend of teaching, group activities and dynamic class discussions, learners will acquire the necessary internal auditing skills to assess the effectiveness of their organizations system. The requirements of ISO 19011:2018 Guidelines for auditing management systems will be used as the foundational requirements for internal audits.

This course is designed for organizations that have already implemented a QMS management system to ISO 9001:2015 or ISO 14001:2015. The standard follows the same high-level structure, and the following are interpreted though the lens of environmental management systems:

  • Understanding the ISO 14001 environmental management system

  • The four phases of an internal audit: Planning, Preparation, Performing the Audit and Reporting/Verification

  • Establishing a foundation around fundamental organizational process

  • Maintaining a holistic perspective during internal audits to optimize safety outcomes

  • Applying effective auditing techniques to enhance organizational outputs

Our expert instructors guide participants through each phase of the internal audit process, emphasizing practical application and value-added auditing techniques. Classroom lecture is seamlessly integrated with hands-on workshops, ensuring that participants grasp the nuances of internal auditing and can apply learned concepts directly within their organizations.

Participants are encouraged to bring a copy of the ISO 14001 standard to the training session for reference and practical application.

Prerequisite(s): A solid understanding of the ISO 14001 standard is recommended for participation in this course.

Course Objective

At the end of the program, you will be able to: 

  1. Identify roles and responsibilities of an effective internal auditor for occupational health and safety management systems 

  1. Plan and develop an audit checklist for internal audits  

  1. Apply tools and techniques to perform an internal audit in compliance with the ISO 45001 standard 

  1. Gain the confidence to contribute to the continuous improvement of your organizations occupational health and safety management system through effective auditing practices
