Standard Effectivity Notice for NSF/ANSI 44, 53, 55 and 58 - 2021
New editions of NSF/ANSI standards 44, 53, 55 and 58 have recently been published. These versions contain the following changes that are effective immediately.
NSF/ANSI 44-2021
This edition contains the following revisions:
Issue 48
This revision updates the minimum 2-L sample requirement to a recommendation in Section 4.2.3.
Issue 49
This revision corrects the improper use of requirements (i.e., “shall”) in notes and corrects minor typos throughout the standard.
The Interpretations Annex contains responses to interpretation requests. The responses will be published in each version of the standard until such time that the interpretation response is no longer applicable.
This revision also includes an editorial update to the names of the annexes within. The annexes are being changed from alphabetical characters to numeric, preceded by “Normative” or “Informative.” The annexes have also been reordered so the Normative Annexes appear first, followed by the Informative Annexes. The table below shows the previous name of the annex with the corresponding new name of the annex:

NSF/ANSI 53-2021
This edition contains the following revisions:
Issue 128
This revision clarifies the requirements for drinking fountains under the general performance requirements in Section 6.5. The ballot also revises the minimum air gap requirement for drinking fountain outlets in Section 6.5.1.4 from 2 inches to 1 inch, to be aligned with other industry standards and codes.
Issue 129
This revision specifies that tannic acid be used per Annex N-7 to achieve a consistent level of TOC in the starting test water when it can’t be achieved from the natural water. A footnote was added to the tables in Sections 7.2.1.5, 7.2.2.5 and 7.2.5.5, and Sections 7.2.1.5.1, 7.2.2.5.1 and 7.2.5.5.1 were added for further clarification.
Issue 131
This revision adds 1,2,3-Trichloropropane to the chemical reduction claims (Tables 7.1 and 8.1).
Issue 134
This revision corrects language in subsections under Sections 7.3.1, 7.3.2 and 7.3.3 to indicate that batch systems sampling is to be taken when the filling time is increased by 33%, 100% and 300%.
Issue 135
This revision clarifies that the acceptance criteria for the microsphere test pertains to every effluent sample point in Sections 7.3.2.2.1 and 7.3.2.3.1.
Issue 136
This revision corrects Section N-1.6.1 (sample collection for Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts) with regard to the polyoxyethelene sorbitan monooleate concentration and removes the requirement to collect influent samples in triplicate.
Issue 137
This revision updates the minimum 2-L sample requirement to a recommendation in Sections 4.2.3.2 and 4.2.3.3.
Issue 138
This revision updates references to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 that have since been moved into NSF/ANSI/CAN 600 in Section 4.1.3.1 and 4.1.3.5. It also corrects the misuse of the word “shall” in informative notes and other instances of terminology throughout the standard that are not acceptable per ANSI requirements. Other minor corrections have been made regarding the appropriate values in tables for turbidity and TOC.
Issue 139
This revision adds a normative reference in Section 2, adds an analyte to Table 4.2 and Table 8.1, and adds evaluation criteria for N-nitrosamine removal as Section 7.2.7 and Informative Annex 7.
Issue 140
This revision corrects two instances of Pb(NO3) to Pb(NO3)2 in Section 7.4.3.5.2.3.1 and updates Table 7.13 to add a column for the individual influent sample point limit, for consistency with Table 7.11.
NSF/ANSI 55-2021
This edition of the standard contains the following revisions:
Issue 57
This revision updates Sections 8.1.1 and 8.2.1 to reflect updates made to testing systems with LED bulbs.
Issue 58
This revision updates normative references as well as corrects the misuse of the word “shall” in informative notes and other minor typos.
Issue 59
This revision updates the text in Figure 2 to clarify collimated beam apparatus specifications.
Issue 60
This revision updates Normative Annex 1 and Normative Annex 2 to reflect process improvement efforts of laboratory operations.

This edition contains the following revisions:
Issue 91

Issue 92
