Pro Tip #1: The Appearance of NRTL Certification Marks Varies by Organization1
All Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) have their own certification marks, each with a different design and color scheme. Any NRTL mark displayed on the OSHA website is acceptable for showing product certification within that organization’s particular scope.2
Get to Know the NRTL Electrical Safety Mark
There are three versions of NSF’s mark for certified electrical products. Letter designations next to the mark show acceptance in the United States, Canada or both.
Certified for the United States only. | Certified for Canada only. | Certified for Canada and the United States. |
In 2022, these marks will transition to also display the specific standard(s) the product is certified to.
Pro Tip #2: The NRTL Mark on a Product Means One Thing and One Thing Only
It means the product has been certified and meets the relevant standard requirements. An Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) looks for the NRTL mark and certification to the appropriate standard, not for certification by a particular Certification Body (CB). (But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look further.)
Consumers Know and Value the NRTL Mark3
- 76% know what the mark means
- 50% look for the mark when buying electrical product
- 33% are more likely to buy a product with the mark
Pro Tip #3: Already a Customer? The NSF NRTL Mark Can Give You Even More
NSF can bundle services for customers already working with us on health effects and performance projects. Because we already have related product information on file, we can often streamline documentation and combine audits and costs.
