NSF Certifies RFL Pipe & Fittings as the First Client in Bangladesh to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372
Dhaka, Bangladesh – NSF, a leading public health and safety organisation in the water industry, announced today that RFL Pipe & Fittings (“ RFL Pipe & Fittings”), a Bangladeshi manufacturer of pipes and fittings, has earned certifications to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 for its thirteen uPVC products and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372: Drinking Water System Components – Lead Content for its uPVC pipe. With this, RFL Pipe & Fittings becomes NSF’s first client in Bangladesh to receive these two certifications. These certifications demonstrate that their uPVC products comply with the standards for minimising lead contaminants and meet health effects standards for drinking water system components.
RFL Pipe & Fittings is one of Bangladesh’s largest manufacturers of uPVC, PVC, cPVC, HDPE, MS and GI pipes. As a sister company of the RFL Group, RFL Pipe & Fittings has pioneered producing pipes and fittings. The company offers pipe and fittings solutions for various industries including agriculture, plumbing and sanitation as well as for electrical, gasoline, dredging, civil construction and telecommunication usage.
“We are proud to certify RFL Pipe & Fittings as the first client to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 in Bangladesh,” said Jyoti Bhasin, Managing Director of APAC, at NSF. “People are increasingly concerned about water safety, especially for contaminants like lead. NSF certification to these standards helps ensure that products used in the water distribution system do not leach harmful levels of contaminants or exceed the maximum lead requirement of 0.25%, which is crucial to providing clean and safe drinking water.”
NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 are vital in protecting public health by setting rigorous health and safety requirements for water system components. NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 establishes minimum health effects requirements for the chemical contaminants and impurities indirectly imparted to drinking water from products, components and materials used in drinking water systems. NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 establishes a standardised methodology for determining and verifying product compliance to minimise lead contaminants, requiring products contain no more than 0.25% lead content by weight.
"RFL Pipe & Fittings, one of the leading business conglomerates in South Asia, is proud to receive certification from NSF as the first company from Bangladesh. RFL Pipe & Fittings began its business in 1996 and has since expanded its export of PVC pipes and fittings to various countries, including the USA, UK, India, Brunei, Ghana etc.,” said Jahangir Alam, Executive Director of RFL Plastic Ltd. ”We believe that NSF certification will enhance our export capabilities and open new avenues for supplying water distribution systems. Our motto is to provide the best pipes & fittings to ensure reliable and efficient water distribution, contributing to the betterment of communities worldwide."
To earn NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 certifications, RFL Pipe & Fittings’ products underwent rigorous testing and technical review by NSF to verify they meet the requirements of these standards. Additionally, NSF audited RFL Pipe & Fittings’ manufacturing plants to verify compliance with the NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 requirements. Certification to these standards provides consumer confidence that products have been independently tested to these requirements.
