NSF Certifies WeatherTech’s PetComfort Feeding System to Human Standards

PetComfort Feeding System meets quality and material safety standard meant for humans, but it’s designed for your pet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – NSF, a global public health and safety organization, has certified the stainless steel bowl of WeatherTech’s PetComfort Feeding System – making it the first pet product to meet human standards for quality, performance and material safety. To earn NSF’s Certified for Home Use™ mark, products are independently tested to meet the rigorous quality and material safety requirements outlined in NSF P461: Special Purpose Products and Devices for Home Use.

“Common household items can be potentially harmful to our pets,” said Lisa Yakas, Senior Certification Project Manager for Consumer Products at NSF. “Pet bowls in particular have the potential to be harmful if they are made with materials that can leach harmful chemicals into your pet’s food and water.”

Additionally, Yakas said pet bowls can be a breeding ground for bacteria and other microbes that can make your pet and your family sick. A study conducted by NSF in 2011 found that pet bowls were one of the top five dirtiest places in the home.

PetComfort Feeding Systems are ergonomic dog and cat bowls designed to keep pets safer with these unique features:

  • Open lip design that is easy to clean and dishwasher safe
  • U.S.-made steel bowl certified for home use by NSF
  • Mat and stand material that complies with commercial food equipment requirements for indirect use
  • Ergonomically designed bowl shape that allows for natural, strain-free access to food and water
  • Eight different sizes and heights to meet your pet’s size

“In a market where many pet bowls are labeled ‘for pet use only’ or ‘not intended for human use,’ I began to wonder that if something wasn’t safe for humans, how could it be safe for pets?” said Allan Thom, President of WeatherTech. “We created PetComfort Feeding Systems and underwent rigorous testing to meet NSF home use standards similar to the standards used in the restaurant industry. Our pets deserve the same health and wellness as their owners.”
