NSF’s Robyn Meurant Participated in the Early Detection Summer School for Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is a cancer research and awareness charity in the United Kingdom and Isle of Man. As the world’s largest independent cancer research charity, it conducts research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

On July 15-18, CRUK held its first Cambridge Centre Early Detection International Summer School, bringing together parties interested in developing new technologies and intervention for early detection and studying the early stages of cancer development. The course aimed to provide delegates with a deeper understanding of the importance of developing and validating new screening technologies for the early detection of cancer as well as the associated challenges. It also provided opportunities for the creation of new local and international collaborations.

At the event, Robyn Meurant, NSF’s Executive Director of Medical Device Regulatory Services, spoke on the assay development pathway up to the point of readiness for clinical trials. She described how factoring in regulatory and clinical inputs early can assist in efficient market access. Fifty students attended the inaugural summer school, representing different international institutions from the UK, the USA, Europe and Singapore.
