NSF Shanghai Named Critical Site for NSF/ANSI 455 and NSF/ANSI 173 by ANSI National Accreditation Board

NSF extends its scope of ISO/IEC 17065:2012 accreditation; NSF’s Shanghai office can certify to NSF/ANSI 455 and NSF/ANSI 173 in China and Asia Pacific via localised expertise.

ANN ARBOR, MI and SHANGHAI, CHINA – Today the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) approved NSF Shanghai as a key location to support the NSF/ANSI 455 and NSF/ANSI 173 certification programmes, extending the scope of NSF’s certification offerings in China under NSF’s ISO/IEC 17065:2012 accreditation.

The extension of NSF’s accreditation scope for ISO/IEC 17065 with the NSF/ANSI 455 and NSF/ANSI 173 schemes allows NSF to provide additional services from this location, meaning companies throughout China and Asia Pacific can earn facility and product certification with the China team.

“Exceptional brands in China who want to go above and beyond to champion safety and quality will now enjoy localised experience at NSF,” said David Trosin, Senior Managing Director, Health Sciences Certification, NSF.

NSF offers audits and certification for dietary supplement products, cosmetics and personal care products and OTC drug products under the NSF/ANSI 455. Compliance with GMPs reassures consumers and regulators that products are manufactured, packaged, warehoused and distributed in compliance with safety and hygiene requirements.

GMP standards encompass international regulatory requirements, retailer quality requirements and industry best practises and are designed to strengthen safety, quality and trust throughout the supply chain. The NSF portfolio of GMP standards includes:

  • NSF/ANSI 455-2 Good Manufacturing Practises for Dietary Supplements
  • NSF/ANSI 455-3 Good Manufacturing Practises for Cosmetics
  • NSF/ANSI 455-4 Good Manufacturing Practises for OTC Drugs

The benefits of GMP certification include:

  • Increased protection of brand and risk minimisation
  • Preparation of facility for regulatory inspections
  • Support of strong quality and GMP programme
  • Reduction in the number of GMP audits and associated financial costs
  • Help in fostering a culture of product safety and quality
  • Demonstration of commitment to product safety and quality to customers
  • Supplier qualification for major retailers and brands

NSF/ANSI 173 is the gold standard for testing and certifying dietary supplements and ingredients. The assessment includes testing for vitamins, minerals, herbs, botanicals, amino acids, sports supplements, concentrates, metabolites, constituents and extracts to verify the supplement facts panel reflects the products contents or that the certificate of analysis for the ingredient accurately depicts its identity and purity specifications.

“NSF is committed to growing our footprint in China and across Asia Pacific,” said David Trosin. “China is an exciting and dynamic market for NSF, and we’re thrilled to mark this company milestone as we focus on growth in this industry throughout the region.”

NSF is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to provide certification to NSF/ANSI 455 and NSF/ANSI 173 standards.
